Tanzania is home to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, and many other iconic parks. But when is the best time to go on safari in Tanzania? It all depends on  the weather, wildlife activity, and the Great Migration.

Here is a break- down:

June to October – The best season overall

The dry season is the peak season for safaris. Wildlife is easier to spot as animals gather around waterholes and vegetation is less dense. The weather is great and chances to spot the big five are higher. The great migration is also witnessed around this time.

November to December – The green season and short rains

Short, refreshing rains begin to fall, but travel is still possible. This is a less crowded time with lush landscapes and beautiful skies. Great if you want to dodge the crowds. The early calving season in the Serengeti makes this park ideal for this season, and Lake Manyara for the greenery and bird life.

January to March – Calving Season in the Serengeti

This is the birthing season for wildebeest, especially in the Southern Serengeti and Ndutu region. Predators are active, making it a wonderful time for game viewing. The predators are more active and photographers can get some great shots. Ngorongoro Crater and Ndutu – Southern Serengeti would be a good visit for this season.

April to May – Long Rains

During the wet season some lodges close – but the safari prices drop and the crowds are fewer. So you can still opt for a safari during this time. However the roads can get very muddy and it may be trickier to spot game. Ngorongoro national park is the best park to visit during this season, give that the animals can be seen throughout the year and they are also more easily spotted.

You can book a safari in Tazania all year round, and we at Viva Africa Tours and Safaris can help you plan your safari according to your preferences.
