The African Centre for Cities (ACC) reiterates the call by the University of Cape Town’s Council to uphold the values of ubuntu, equality and the rule of law, and to reject acts of xenophobia and violence. This comes in light of the recent xenophobic tensions that flared up in parts of South Africa
The ACC firmly believes that African urban challenges can only be addressed collectively by bringing together diverse voices from across the continent. As the chair of Council makes clear, UCT is a global institution that thrives precisely because it brings together scholars from across South Africa, Africa, and the world. The same principle underpins ACC’s work.
To echo the Chair of council: “UCT remains committed to fostering a campus environment in which all members of our community are welcomed, respected and able to participate fully in university life – irrespective of their nationality, citizenship, ethnicity, place of origin or religion.”
ACC looks forward to future highly generative and enriching collaborations through our research projects, Masters teaching programmes, doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships, scholarly visits and exchanges, and collegial dialogue.
