Two-time CAF Player of the Year runner-up Achraf Hakimi has explained why he extended his contract with French football powerhouse Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

On Saturday, the Moroccan right-back extended his deal with the Parisians until 2029 having established himself as one of the best full-backs in the world during his time with the club.

Hakimi, who has won seven major trophies with PSG including three Ligue 1 titles, stated that ‘there are still so many goals I want to achieve’ at the Parisians.

“I think the first thing is the ambitious project we have here at the club. Then there’s the football that the coach has us playing, which I really like! And finally, there are still so many goals I want to achieve with Paris Saint-Germain,” Hakimi said.

When asked whether the contract extension was a big moment for him Hakimi said, “Absolutely! First of all, I’d like to thank the President for his confidence and for all the work he does at the club, which is incredible.

“I’d also like to thank the coach, who has placed his trust in me both on and off the pitch. I also extended my contract because I feel good in this team, and that’s why I’m trying to give my all for the club.”

The 26-year-old is expected to be in action for Morocco as they take on Tanzania and Niger in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.
