Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are likely to face Brazil and Argentina in the group stage of the 2023 U-20 World Cup.

On Thursday, 20 April, FIFA unveiled on their Twitter handle the pots ahead of Friday’s draw for this year’s edition which will be hosted in Argentina.

The Flying Eagles were placed in pot three with Uzbekistan, Japan, Iraq, Honduras and Fiji.

The implication is that Ladan Bosso’s side can be placed in the same group as host Argentina who are in pot one and Brazil in pot two.

Aside from the two South American football giants, there is the possibility of the Flying Eagles being drawn in the same group with Uruguay (pot one), France (pot one), Italy (pot one) and England (pot two).

Senegal, who won the 2023 U-20 AFCON are in pot one while Gambia and Tunisia are in pot four.

The twenty-four teams for the 2023 U-20 World Cup will be drawn into six groups of four teams, with the hosts automatically seeded to pot one

Indonesia was stripped of hosting rights of this year’s edition on 29 March 2023 amidst protests at the participation of Israel.

On 17 April 2023, FIFA officially announced Argentina as the new host of the tournament to replace Indonesia.
