1. Buying the right size shirt is essential. By buying a shirt that does not exceed your hips can create the illusion of a long torso. The longer your shirt the shorter your legs will appear and this is the opposite of what you’re trying to achieve.

2. Although baggy pants are tempting to purchase because they can be so comfortable, this can be a mistake. By choosing pants that fit your waist as well as your legs can also create the appearance of longer legs. A fitted pair of pants can show off the shape of your legs and this is a positive spin for a shorter woman.
3. Full length skirts should be avoided. The idea that hiding your legs can make you look taller is completely backwards. Baggy and long skirts can actually make you look shorter than you are. In order to avoid this boxy look, you can pair a long skirt with a pair of high heels in order to offset the length and try to increase your height at the same time.
4. Dark jeans, tights and leggings are the optimal choices for shorter women because they make your legs look slimmer as well as longer. When you choose lighter wash jeans you will find your legs appear to be wider than normal and this can actually make you look shorter. Dark washes are far more polished and can be worn as casual wear and evening wear as well.
5. Cropped jackets are a great choice to make your torso look longer. Cropped jackets are incredibly trendy this year and a staple in the casual wear industry today. You will find aviator jackets and military jackets are on top of the list today and can create the illusion of height you’re looking for.

6. As a petite woman, you may be under the impression that heels are the only footwear option you have in order to look tall but this is not the case. Flat shoes can help create the illusion of height just as well as heels. When paired with leggings you will find your legs look slimmer and longer and you are comfortable in flats.
As you can see there are a number of different fashion techniques you can test in order to create the appearance of height. Don’t let your height make you feel as though you can’t take advantage of this year’s women’s casual wear trends because the tips above can help!

10 Fashion Style Tips & Tricks For Short Women
If you’re conscious about your height, here are 10 useful style tips designed to help you appear a bit taller.
1. Establish a slim silhouette.
Try wearing one or two dark colors, like black or navy blue, with one bright accent. For work attire, you could wear a pencil skirt with a jacket in the same color with a bold orange, lime green or aqua blouse underneath.
2. Vertical details around your waist.
Buttons laid out vertically on your top or a long piece of fashion jewelry that dangles almost to your belly button can serve to elongate your torso.
3 V-neck shirts.
This style of neckline has a strong vertical element, again working to add height to your frame. V-neck tops look elegant with a variety of fashion jewelry.
4. Single-breasted jackets.
This style of formal wear is more flattering on short women than double-breasted jackets because there is less fabric to weigh you down.
5. Avoid horizontal stripes.
Horizontal stripes make you look wider, hence shorter. Stick to vertical pin stripes in jackets and pants.
6. Avoid loose clothing.
Flaired pants or denim will make you appear more square, as will non-form-fitting tops. Keep fabrics close to your body to help you appear to take up less room.
7. Straight pants without cuffs.
Remember that cuffs divide the length of your legs and make them appear shorter.
8. Empire waist.
Wear a belt to tighten and gather the fabric just below your bust, thus elongating your frame and connecting your torso with your legs in a very flattering way.
9. Heels.
While you should avoid flats, wear medium sized heels. Wearing four inch heels can draw too much attention to your height.
10. Knee-length skirts.
Anything that ends mid calf will serve to only cut your legs in half and make you look even shorter. If you must have a longer skirt, find one that extends to the floor. Otherwise, keep it knee-length for the most flattering look.
