L
ast Monday night was a good one for fashion, perhaps we rename it “Monslay.” The red carpets were bursting with unique looks—one that had us staying up all night anticipating the looks of our favorite black stars. Most fashion enthusiasts have The British Fashion Awards pinned on their calendar, and this iconic fashion event delivered true to its reputation on Monday. Beyond that, we also saw a slew of other events on every corner of the fashion calendar that had the stars dress accordingly. It was easy to spot stylish celebs swaying in remarkable clothing, all in celebration of the achievements the year has brought.

It’s safe to say we are in the season of relaxation and counting our wins for the year; little wonder that designers and their celeb muses are seizing the opportunity to display some seriously winning looks. For instance, last week’s Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment gala smoked out stars like Issa Rae and Janelle Monae onto the scene. These appearances resulted in flamboyant pleasing-to-the-eye ensembles making their mark on the style scenes.
The Looks
This year has been one incredibly stylish year for Jodie Turner-Smith. We can’t expect anything less from her when it comes to style, as she has made it a point of duty to slay serially. And as the host of the British Fashion Awards last week, the star shone in not one but six notable ensembles (if we include her after-party look). She bodied various designs, from Richard Quinn to Gucci and the results were unbelievably good. One of our favorites of the six looks was the white and silver combo by 16 Arlington. The elaborate white fur coat layered on a silver sequin number had the 36-year-old actress and model looking pristine.
For the love of extra sophistication, Sabrina Elba turned necks in an Off White turquoise dress for the British Vogue Forces of Change event held at The Londoner Hotel. The oversize train with an unrecognizable inscription and exaggerated gloves were the highlight of this high-fashion ensemble.
Actress Issa Rae knows how to lead a somewhat low-key life, while her achievements make up for it in loud wins. The star received the Hollywood Reporter Equity in Entertainment Award at the Women in Entertainment event wearing a stunning Hervé Léger SS23 RTW fringe number. The lavender turtleneck dress featured a plunging neckline, a floor-length fringe skirt, and a pleated hemline. With a statement-making dress like this, it’s only right to slap on an understated glam. A slick back braided pony, neutral face beat, and hoop earrings stayed on course.
