‘He brought flowers, then quickly asked me to be his girlfriend!’: Find out if it was a match on this week’s Blind Date

    ABIGEL, 28

    Single, no children.

    Dating Past?

I’ve been single for three years since breaking up with my ex because he was more interested in spending time with his friends than me. Since then, I’ve been on dates but have not met anyone special.

    Pre-Date Nerves?

I’ve never been on a blind date before, but I wasn’t nervous as I’m a confident person.

    First Impressions?

Emeka arrived with flowers, which was a lovely, gentlemanly thing to do. He seemed confident, friendly and was good-looking too, with a nice smile, so I had high hopes for the date.

    Easy To Talk To?

Yes, the conversation flowed and I thought Emeka’s views were interesting.

He brought flowers, then quickly asked me to be his girlfriend!

He kept saying he was happy to support a woman to help her achieve her dreams, which you rarely hear from men. I liked that a lot.

I also enjoyed discussing our travels around Europe and Africa.

But after only a few minutes, I realised that while he was very easy to talk to, I wasn’t that attracted to Emeka. I didn’t feel any spark.

I tend to prefer a man who is more laidback and mysterious. Someone who perfectly complements me.

    Embarrassing Moments?

    No, none at all.

    Did sparks fly?

Not for me, I’m afraid. I think Emeka was expecting a kiss after the date. It wasn’t as if he moved in to kiss me, but there was something about his body language that made me think he’d like to.

He tried to hug me – only in a friendly way – but I wasn’t prepared to go any further than that.

    See him again?

Not in a romantic way. I thought I might like to get to know him as a friend. But he didn’t seem to take it well when I didn’t respond to his text at first – I was simply busy!

His eagerness felt overwhelming and it made me hesitant about meeting him again.

What do you think he thought of you?

He must have liked me because at one point he asked if I’d like to be his girlfriend. I was thinking: ‘Whoa, that’s way too soon!’

    Would your family like him?

They would see straight away that he’s not my type. He’s simply not laidback enough for me.

    Dating Past

I was seeing someone for a few months until September, but I haven’t been on any dates since.

    Pre-Date Nerves?

Yes! I’ve never done anything like this before, but I had nothing to lose. I took a bunch of flowers with me as I wanted to set the right tone – my mum brought me up well.

    First Impressions?

I didn’t set any high expectations as I didn’t want to be disappointed, but when I first saw Abigel I thought she was truly beautiful. Not too much make-up and naturally very attractive. I was excited to get to know her better.

    Easy To Talk To?

Yes, we got on well. We talked about our backgrounds – I’m originally from Nigeria and she has family in Ghana but grew up in Italy.

I loved that Abigel ordered more bread during the meal; it showed that she loves her food (as I do) and wasn’t being picky.

She’s truly beautiful – and I like that she ordered extra bread

She seems ambitious and wants to do more modelling, showing me photos from her pageant work. To me, she is stunning and has absolutely got what it takes to be a success.

    Embarrassing Moments?

    I can’t think of anything.

    Did sparks fly?

I think so. We put our arms around each other for a few selfies and I didn’t feel any awkwardness at all.

She laughed at some of the things I said, too, so I think she was attracted to me. I was certainly attracted to her.

    See her again?

We swapped numbers at the end of the date and hugged several times. I think she was expecting me to lean in to kiss her, but I didn’t. I was probably too nervous. I wish I had.

We’ve suggested another date, although I texted her when I got home and I haven’t heard back, so we’ll see.

What do you think she thought of you?

She said she liked my confidence and that I looked a lot younger than my age.

    Would your family like her?

Yes. She has a real sense of ‘family’ about her. She talked about her mum a lot so is obviously close to her, and I like that in a girl.

    ABIGEL’S VERDICT: 6/10

Liked? It was a lot of fun.

    Regrets? No.

    EMEKA’S VERDICT: 7/10

    Regrets? No.
