Nigeria head coach Joao Peseiro hopes Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman replicate their club form in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Super Eagles are set to take on Guinea-Bissau home and away in the AFCON qualifiers with Peseiro’s side needing three points to secure their place in the finals which will be hosted by Ivory Coast next year.

Osimhen has been in scintillating form for SSC Napoli this season netting 13 goals which sees him sitting at the top of the Italian Serie A scoring charts, while Atalanta BC’s Lookman is placed second on the list with 11 goals.

Peseiro, who has been tasked with leading the West African giants to the 2023 AFCON finals, believes that the future of Nigerian football is bright.

“It’s an exceptional moment for Nigerian footballers and knowing you can count on two strikers like them is something incredible,” Peseiro said to Il Mattino, via Tuttomercatoweb.

“I’m telling the truth: knowing you have two strikers like that makes me feel much better, it makes me feel much better. At this point I hope they bring their positivity to the national team as well.

“We talk practically every week and in fact I heard them right after the last goals scored. Victor is incredible, he is never satisfied. Even when he scores and is decisive.”

Osimhen is also placed at the top of the scoring charts of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with five goals.
