The flagbearer of the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has congratulated Victor Osimhen for winning the AIC Serie A Footballer of the Year Award.

Obi congratulated Osimhen in a statement on X where he also said that the Napoli and Super Eagles striker’s success will help to rekindle the fire of hope for the Nigerian youth to succeed.

“I would like to heartily congratulate our own International superstar, @victorosimhen9 who just won the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Player of the Year award for the 2022/23 Serie A Season,” he posted.

Osimhen who stars for SSC Napoli got the award after leading his club to the Italian league championship after scoring a record 26 goals to become the league’s highest goals scorer, the first African footballer to achieve the feat in that country.

He was also the first Nigerian to be named in the top ten of the Ballon d’Or and also made the final shortlist for the 2023 CAF Footballer of the year.

“Such success stories of Nigerian youths as this are not only heartwarming but rekindle the fire of hope for a better tomorrow in our youths that, irrespective of the obstacles on their way to success, they rise and succeed,” Obi added.

The former governor of Anambra state further wished Osimhen more success in his football career and said he is certain that every Nigerian youth is individually gifted and talented.

“My mission is to see a New Nigeria where every youth will have the platform to explore their talents, develop their skills, contribute to national development and compete effectively on the global stage,” Obi said.

“This is my dream of a New Nigeria which is becoming more POssible by the day.”
