Two-Time CAF Champions League winners, Enyimba FC of Aba, have said they won’t be intimidated by the pedigree of Wydad Athletic Club in tomorrow’s quarterfinal encounter of the maiden African Football League (AFL).

The match will hold by 7.00pm Nigerian time at the ‘Nest Of Champions’ Uyo.The People’s Elephant won their first NPFL match of the season against Akwa United last Sunday, a victory that will boost their morale for the tie against Wydad AC.

Enyimba FC striker, Eze Happy Ekwutoziam, has declared that they have all it takes to cage the Moroccans in tomorrow’s tie. Speaking to Enyimba media after their Thursday training ahead of the clash, Ekwutoziam said the players are aware of what is expected of them.

“A lot is expected from us, knowing how strong Wydad AC is. They are one of the biggest clubs in Africa but we are not under pressure.

“We have been working hard, keeping shape and working on our strategies on how to eliminate them. A lot is expected from us not just from our fans, but Nigerians and our fans across West Africa. We are not going to let them down.”

Speaking further, Ekwutoziam said: “We are going into the game with the right mindset to get a victory, and AFL league is a big platform. Being the maiden edition, it is an opportunity for most of us, and we are working hard to make the best out it.

“We call on all our fans from all over the nation and Africa to come out en mass and cheer us to victory. We assure them to be at our best to get the needed result.

Also speaking on the AFL encounter, teenage sensation, who delighted Enyimba fans against Akwa United in the NPFL league last Sunday, Chibueze Izuogu, called on fans of the People’s Elephant to give them their maximum support by cheering the team to victory.

He said: “I am really happy to be in the club representing Nigeria in this maiden edition of the AFL league. I am promising our darling fans that we will do our best because the mentality is very high and our confidence is also high in the camp. Everyone is preparing very hard to get the victory that is required.”

World football governing body, FIFA, will live stream the match to fans across the globe. The African Football League (AFL) is a brand-new competition born from a partnership between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA.

The inaugural edition of the tournament will bring together eight of the continent’s most famous and successful teams, from all the African regional blocs.
