Lemala Kuria Hills | Serengeti Safari Lodge

Travel expert at Jumbari Family Safaris, Luanna Do Coutto, shares her first-hand experience of a Serengeti safari at the family-friendly camp Lemala Kuria Hills.

    About Serengeti National Park

    Wildebeest crossing the Mara River

This family-friendly safari lodge is tucked away in the Wogakuria Hills of the Northern Serengeti, within close proximity to the famous Mara River. This region falls within the main corridor and gives guests front row seats to the world-famous wildebeest migration between the months of July and October.

    Getting to Lemala Kuria Hills

Exterior view of the tented suites

The camp is easily accessible from Kogatende airstrip, a short 45-minute drive from the camp. Flights to and from the Kogatende airstrip are available from other airstrips within the Serengeti and Arusha, as well as from Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. These flights are operated by light aircraft and be prepared, there might be multiple stops before you reach your final destination.

Tented suite with private deck and plunge pool

If you are planning to drive the Northern Circuit, Lemala Kuria Hills is the perfect starting or end point to your itinerary.

    About Lemala Kuria Hills

The camp features 15 spacious tented suites (10 double tents and 5 family tents) that are dotted between the granite boulders and kopjes that make up the area – ensuring maximum privacy and, of course, spectacular views. Each suite has a private plunge pool, as well as an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet, hot shower, freestanding bathtub plus an incredible outdoor shower.

The main lodge is the perfect spot to unwind after days out on the Serengeti. Guests can enjoy the plush lounge and bar area, as well as indoor and outdoor dining options, as well as swimming pool and spa.

Lemala Cubs Club for children under the age of 12

The camp is family-friendly and welcomes children of all ages. For kids under 12 years old, Lemala has an engaging ‘Cubs Club’. The programme offers a wide range of fun and education activities including learning to identify Africa’s animals and birds, tracking and spoor identification techniques, walking with the Maasai warriors and evening joining the chefs in the kitchen.

    Wildlife in the Serengeti

Cheetah sighting on game drive in the Serengeti

Serengeti National Park is considered to be Tanzania’s most celebrated wildlife destination and the safari experience here will not disappoint. The vast plains are home Africa’s famous Big 5 – leopard, lion, elephant, rhino and buffalo, as well as hippo, giraffe and cheetah. However, this wildlife mecca is best known for the Annual Great Wildebeest Migration – a wildlife spectacle that sees over three million antelope migrate through the Serengeti, over the Mara River to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve within big cats following in hot pursuit.
