Enjoy a cheese and wine pairing this winter

Did you know that pairing wine with certain foods can help enhance its flavour and experience. This is especially true when wine is paired with cheese, thanks to the fact that the two sit on opposite sides of the spectrum of taste. Wine is astringent and cheese is full of fat and these two qualities complement each other.

Stellenbosch Hills is giving visitors the opportunity to experience a wine and cheese pairing like no other.

Enjoy a Sauvignon Blanc & semi-soft cheese flavoured with garlic and chives

Crisp and zesty, the wine is an ideal partner to the cheese in this experience that delightfully entwines fruitiness with savoury notes.

Shiraz & semi-soft cheese with Cajun spice

The wine shows classic notes of red fruit, oak spice and hints of black pepper – elements that meet the fullness of the Cajun spice and dance on the palate.

Cabernet Sauvignon & hard Boerenkaas cheese flavoured with cumin

Two powerhouses meet in this combination. The wine is bold with the complexity of ripe fruit, oak spice and notes of cedarwood. The cheese is just as expressive, matching every step of the wine in flavour and intensity.

Muscat de Hambourg & Camembert

They say opposites attract and this is certainly true of this pairing. The wine is fragrant with notes of candyfloss, boiled sweets, rose petals and violets. It goes beautifully with the young, slightly sharp and salty cheese.

Stellenbosch Hills are teaming up with Stanford-based cheese producer Stonehouse, who are providing the artisan cheeses for the pairings.

This match made in heaven experience is currently open and will operate during the winter months of June, July and August 2021. It costs R75 per person and the tasting room is open from Monday to Friday between 09:00 to 17:00, and on Saturdays between 10:00 to 15:00. It is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

For more information about Stellenbosch Hills, visit their website or contact them at 021 881 3828/9 or via email: info@stellenbosch-hills.co.za
