Many are looking forward to a summer of music after festivals were cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And while a handful of 2021 events have either been moved to online only, postponed or cancelled altogether, some festivals are still going ahead.

Earlier this month it was announced Wales’ biggest music event, Green Man, would be happening after the Welsh Government confirmed lockdown was easing. Shortly after Welsh singer Charlotte Church confirmed she would be performing, you can read more on this here.

Everyone attending needs to have had two jabs or a negative lateral flow test.

Here’s what’s coming up in August 2021 as things start to look up.

Boardmasters, 11-15 August Where: Newquay, Cornwall

Who: Foals, Gorillaz, Jorja Smith

“It seems you guys are as excited as we are – Camping AND Day Tickets for Boardmasters 2021 are now completely SOLD OUT! Headliners @foals @gorillaz & @JorjaSmith,” organisers posted on Twitter.

“PLUS a whole host more will be joining you across ten stages on the Cornish coast.”

It’s a big return for the festival which had to cancel its 2019 event due to storms and their 2020 one due to Covid-19. Tickets from 2019 will still be valid for this year’s festival.

Bloodstock, 11-15 August Where: Catton Park, Derbyshire

Who: Judas Priest, Kreator, Devin Townsend, Skindred

It’s the 20th anniversary of one of the UK’s biggest metal festivals and this year it has been extended to five days to make up for it being cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 crisis.

Green Man, 19-22 August

The event is back after being cancelled last year.

In an announcement on social media organisers said: “Green Man is GO! We’re ecstatic to finally say that we can go ahead this August.”

Everyone over 16 attending will need to show that they’ve either had two doses of a coronavirus vaccine or that they have had a negative lateral flow test within 48 hours prior to their arrival. The NHS Covid Pass will be used as proof.

The statement added: “This decision was not taken lightly and was made following Wednesday’s announcement by the Welsh First Minister, and after much consultation with the Welsh Government and Powys County Council.” You can read more on this here.

The UK’s biggest dance music festival is returning to Daresbury over the August 2021 bank holiday weekend. Tickets sold out in record time when they went on sale in February.

Billed as “the party of the summer”, the award-winning festival features music from some of the world’s biggest DJs and dance music artists.

In order to gain access to Creamfields, all ticket holders will need to demonstrate their Covid-19 status. You can find out more on the website.

Reading and Leeds Festival, August 27-29 Where: Little John’s Farm, Reading; Bramham Park, Leeds

Who: Stormzy, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Post Malone, Disclosure, Liam Gallagher and Queens of the Stone Age

“Following the government’s recent announcement, we can’t wait to get back to the fields this summer Party popper LET’S GO Clinking beer mugs #RandL21,” the official Reading and Leeds Festival Twitter account shared.

Reading and Leeds Festival will ask all ticket holders aged 11 and over to demonstrate their COVID-19 status before entering the festival, reports BerkshireLive.

Victorious Festival, 27-29 August Where: Southsea, Portsmouth

Who: Madness, The Streets, Royal Blood

Like many other events happening this Summer, Victorious ask all ticket-holders aged 18 and over to demonstrate their Covid-19 status upon entering the festival. You can find out the different way to do this on their website.

“We want to provide an amazing experience for our festival community, therefore we will be following government guidelines closely to ensure Covid-19 standards are met and we are working with local authorities to ensure the event has procedures in place to reduce the risk of Covid-19. We will have additional security and facilities across the site to ensure a great event for both our festival-goers as well as the local community.”

Who: London Grammar, Jorja Smith, Jamie XX, Kano, Foals, Bombay Bicycle Club, Field Day

One of the biggest festivals in London has the go-ahead after being rescheduled, reports The Mirror.

The music event is set to take place in Victoria Park across one weekend.
