The number of COVID-19 infections in Kenya has surpassed the 230,000 mark as the East African country continues its fight against the pandemic.
According to the latest data by the health ministry, 1,166 people tested positive for the disease over the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 230,794.
The ministry also reports 36 deaths, taking the cumulative number of virus-related fatalities to 4,564.
Kenya has ramped up national vaccination efforts aimed at containing further spread of the virus.
By Tuesday, the total number of vaccines administered had reached 3,610,560 with the number of fully inoculated persons being 786,340.

The government has also imposed various containment measures, including a nationwide nighttime curfew, a ban on large public gatherings and the mandatory wearing of face masks.
