Settling in and making use of every corner
Now, before you picture a luxury spa experience, let me stop you there. Copperleigh’s charm isn’t the “let me fetch your robe” kind. It’s the “fetch your own wood and make it happen” kind which, oddly, feels far more rewarding. Copperleigh provides daily firewood which made the braai area a focal point of our time there. Both evenings we fully embraced the braai ritual. The Man wielded the tongs with pride, Niece and the Man Cub hovered with excitement and I…well, I mostly stood by enjoying the smells, the warmth and the laughter that comes with outdoor cooking. Yes, okay…and some wine. The combination of space, facilities and thoughtful touches made it easy to relax and really made the cottage feel like ours for the weekend.
And then there’s the hot tub. Divine! The water warm and the views serene. The world sighing and saying “Here, you deserve this.” It’s wood-fired. Glorious. No jets, no noise. Just steam and stars. And, because nothing ever goes according to plan, the first evening saw us trying to manage the perfect water temperate like amateur alchemists. Too cold, too hot, then suddenly just perfect. It was one of those chaotic family scenes that somehow feel like the heart of a memory.
