The African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) held its 2024–2025 Media Awards ceremony on June 20 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. At the event, China Media Group (CMG) received the Excellence in Cultural Exchange and Technological Innovation Award for its groundbreaking production, The Great Migration 2024.

The special award was presented by Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Communication, Amadou Coulibaly.

AUB Chief Executive Officer Grégoire Ndjaka and nearly one hundred representatives from AUB member media organizations also attended the ceremony.

CMG officially joined the AUB as an international member in 2024.

CMG Africa launched its large-scale, integrated media coverage The Great Migration from August 16 to 18, 2024. It was the first time technologies such as 5G, AI, 8K resolution, and 3D immersive sound were applied in a multi-camera live outdoor broadcast.

The production also featured remote-controlled cameras, drones, safari vehicle studios, and slow live streaming, offering viewers a richly immersive experience.

In April 2025, during his state visit to China, Kenyan President William Ruto praised the coverage in a special interview. He commended the program for authentically portraying East Africa’s natural wonders and Kenya’s rich tourism assets.

President Ruto highlighted its global impact, noting that the broadcast significantly heightened international interest in visiting Kenya. He expressed sincere appreciation to CMG, acknowledging a sustained increase in tourist arrivals following the program.
