Age is just a number and style is an eternal youthful spirit that lives on forever. Welcome to your golden era of fashion, where you can redefine your style and be an inspiration to the new youngins. You’ve slayed your 30s and conquered your 40s. Now, it is time to master the art of dressing up in your 50s and beyond.

Forget about what the Gen-Z kids of today are wearing, set your eyes on dressing yourself with grace and looking like a don each time you enter a room.
In this style guide, we shall look into the essentials of dressing in your 50s and 60s.
    1. Invest in timeless classics

It’s time to ditch the skinny jeans and invest in some well-tailored timeless classics like blazers, crisp shirts, trousers, polos, and slightly fitted button-down tee shirts. These items not only withstand the test of time but they can be worn multiple times and they can be mixed and matched. This gives you plenty of outfit combinations just from a few items.
Furthermore, make sure you get the best quality to avoid easy wear and tear.

    2. Prioritise comfort

Being comfortable in whatever you put on has to be the prerequisite for whether an outfit will work or not. Get clothes that fit well but also allow you to move freely. Choose fabrics that are breathable and soft like cotton, linen and bamboo. These materials let air circulate, keeping you cool and relaxed.

If you feel a bit off and uncomfortable in your outfits most of the time, it’s a sign that you need to switch things up.
    3. Get matching sets

While you might occasionally need some great suits, they will probably not be a priority to you as much as you head into this decade. What you should consider getting are matching two-piece sets. A matching set consists of two garments that are made from the same fabric and are designed to be worn together. They typically have the same colour, patterns or style.

Wearing a matching set gives you an effortless coordinated look. Moreover, matching sets are less stressful because you don’t have to go through the stress of putting an outfit together.

    4. Incorporate modern trends sparingly

Now, we know we’ve mentioned that you should stay away from styles for people in their 20s, but you can borrow a thing or two from them, just not as much. Yes, you should wear a majority of classy and timeless pieces. However, incorporating some modern trends can make you look fresh and current.
The key to mastering this is to incorporate them sparingly. You can go for pieces like a trendy wristwatch or bag and a stylish jacket. Get those that complement your overall aesthetic, not throw it off.
    5. Get inspiration

Lastly, you can search for stylish men in their 50s and 60s and draw inspiration from them. This widens your imagination and helps you create a unique signature look for yourself.
Some of our favourites are Richard Mofe-Damijo, Ramsey Nouah, Ayo Makun (AY), Will Smith, and Steve Harvey.
