From the ingenious structures at Machu Picchu to the reed islands afloat on Lake Titicaca, Peru’s most iconic sights are often found in the remotest of places. But fear not; this doesn’t mean you’ll have to forgo any creature comforts. Peru has a plenty of gorgeous properties to choose from when organising a trip and we’ve round up some of our favourites below. Read on for a little inspiration on how to see Peru in luxury.

Trek up Rainbow Mountain in The Sacred Valley

An Andean Adventure

Start your trip by finding your feet amongst the fascinating buildings in Lima, replenished by a good ceviche and Pisco sour overlooking the ocean — speaking of which, the surfing is incredible! Next up, you’ll feel as if you’ved stepped back in time by a few hundred years as you marvel at the ruins of the Sacred Valley, a living museum for ancient Incan innovation.

Next, you’ll make the scenic journey by foot, bus or train to the hallowed structures at Machu Picchu, before getting lost in the history and narrow cobblestone streets of Cusco. Last up, enjoy a cruise on the sprawling Lake Titicaca, meeting the communities who live on the floating islands and learning about their way of life.

Opulent spots to stay

In Lima, Miraflores Park enjoys pride of place on the Malecon promenade and a splendid view across the Pacific Ocean — the heated rooftop pool is a favourite spot from which to enjoy it. In the Sacred Valley, Explora Valle Sagrado boasts fantastic vistas over the Incan terraces as well as a superb menu to revive you after a day of exploring. Withing walking distance of Machu Picchu, it doesn’t get better than Sanctuary Lodge, especially when you’re enjoying one of their open-air massages. In Cusco, the beautifully-designed Palacio Nazarenas is luxe and gorgeous with marble bathrooms, sprawling terraced gardens and 24-hour butler service, whilst stunning views and superior service are in no short supply at the all-inclusive Titilaka Hotel.

Ancient Peru

Begin your adventure in Lima, where history buffs will be more than satisfied by the Spanish architecture and museums (and everyone will love the sparkling sea views). Then, follow your sense of adventure to the photogenic Sacred Valley, home to countless Incan ruins, fascinating crafting traditions and a plethora of adrenaline-pumping activities including white water rafting on the clear Urubamba River.

Your next stop is the iconic citadel of Machu Picchu, which you can explore for hours on end, excavating the intriguing history beneath the stonework. Your final stop is the erstwhile Incan capital of Cusco, a head-spinning blend of history, markets brimming with hand-made items, and world-class cuisine — the chocolate alone…

Tambo del Inka, The Sacred Valley

Opulent spots to stay

In Lima, Hotel B is a beautifully-restored Belle Epoque mansion with a jaw-dropping art collection, and award-winning rooftop bar. Tambo del Inka is a fabulous choice in the Sacred Valley, boasting one of the best spas in the country and a private train station that will take you to your next destination: Machu Picchu. Gazing right upon the mountain citadel, the Sanctuary Lodge takes first prize in the location stakes here — the sunset views from your private balcony are spectacular. The only Relais & Chateaux property in Cusco, the Inkaterra la Casona has a fascinating history to match its handsome facade.

Ultimate Peru

Discover the many sides of Peru on this trip that will take you all the way from the Nazca Lines to the Amazon. After clinking Pisco sours and eating your fill of delicious ceviche in Lima, meander down the coast to Paracas for a good helping of adventure and trying your hand at sandboarding down desert dunes, quad-biking excursions, and boat trips to see colonies of sea lions, Humboldt penguins and Peruvian boobies. Then there are the mystical Nazca Lines that have to be seen to be believed; take to the skies for the best views.

Enjoy ornate architecture and top-tier dining in Arequipa, before the Colca Canyon calls. One of the deepest canyons in the world, the hiking trails are incredible, and you’re in with a good chance of spying soaring Andean condors too. From one natural to another, your next stop is Lake Titicaca, where you’ll cruise across the water to visit the communities who live on the floating reed islands and learn all about the weaving skills that have been passed down for generations. Then, make the scenic journey to Cusco, an ancient city in the Andes, where history comes alive amongst the cobblestone streets.

Delve even deeper into Peru’s past as you explore the ruins of the Sacred Valley, trying your hand at centuries-old crafts and marveling at the masonry skills of the Incas. Speaking of which, the striking Machu Picchu is next on the itinerary — seeing the ancient structures at sunrise will leave you speechless. Your final stop is Tambopata, one of the most biodiverse regions in the Amazon, where every day holds something unique alongside a multitude of otherworldly creatures.

Titilaka Hotel, Lake Titicaca

Opulent spots to stay

In Lima, the Hotel B has a selection of spacious suites with private terraces overlooking the boulevard. Just minutes away from the Paracas Nature Reserve, Hotel Paracas boasts a private beach, seaside dining and fabulous views, whilst in Arequipa, CIRQA has an impeccable design reflecting its history – and a heated plunge pool. Sitting within 8 acres of pretty gardens near the Colca Canyon, the uber-private bungalows at Las Casitas are a dream.

At Lake Titicaca, the Titilaka Hotel promises sensational views from every corner of the property (including the enormous pillowy beds) and in Cusco, the Palacio Nazarenas boasts a heavenly spa and 24-hour butler service to see to every detail. When in the Sacred Valley, choose the Explora Valle Sagrado for views directly over the famous Incan terraces — as well as world-class guides — and at Machu Picchu, it’s the Sanctuary Lodge for exceptional dining and open-air massages overlooking Huayna Picchu. As for Tambopata, a scenic boat ride will take you into the Refugio Amazonas’ private reserve where the views are sensational.
