The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has revealed that issues relating to the contract of Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro will be sorted soon.

Gusau said this on Tuesday while speaking to veteran sports journalist Mitchell Obi in an interview on “Sports Salsa” radio show, on Kennis 104.1 FM.

Obi asked Gusau whether Nigerians should be expecting the new coach of the Super Eagles if the contract of Peseiro expires.

“Well, we are still on it and very soon, by the grace of God, Nigerians will hear the voice of the Federation, as far as the coach is concerned,” Gusau said.

“As you know next month, on the 10th of September, we shall have the last match of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers (AFCON) against Sao Tome and Principe.

“Obviously, everything will be concluded, before that time. We hope to conclude very soon and a decision will be made based on the recommendations of the technical committee.”

Gusau was further quizzed on whether the contract of the Super Eagles coach had actually ended, because it was supposed to expire on the 30th of June, 2023.

“It is not supposed to end at the end of June. If you recall, the Nations Cup was supposed to start in June and end in July (2023),” Gusau replied.

“So, the contract is supposed to end by the end of July. By the grace of God, very soon, Nigerians will know the position, because we are still talking with him and his lawyers, on that issue.”

According to the NFF chief, the contract said that Peseiro had to qualify the team to the Nations Cup and secondly, he should take them to the finals of the Nations Cup.

He added that unfortunately, there were circumstances, which made the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to take the tournament to January (2024) and obviously, it has affected the whole situation.

Obi also asked Gusau if he thinks Peseiro will stay and complete his assignment to which the NFF president said he couldn’t precisely say that.

Gusau added that Nigerians should not forget that the NFF has a technical committee on ground and they must give them a chance to do what they are supposed to do.

He added that the technical committee give their own recommendation and then, the NFF will look into it and see how they can come up with a decision that all Nigerians will be happy about.
