Three days after an attack on a humanitarian convoy that killed five people, the African Union, the United States and several other countries urged the warring parties in Sudan to respect humanitarian law. This East African country has been devastated by a bloody war since April 2023. According to the UN, four million people have already fled the country, leaving it in a state of chaos and causing a humanitarian crisis.
In other news, the University of Zimbabwe has begun replacing its striking lecturers with adjunct staff who reportedly earn as little as three US dollars per hour. More than 100 lecturers and teaching staff have picketed Zimbabwe’s main university to demand fair wages and improved working conditions. With no end in sight, exams have already been cancelled.
