You may be planning to go on a Safari in Tanzania but have no idea where to start or which places to go.

Tanzania is home to several national parks that showcase its remarkable wildlife and natural beauty.

Here is a quick guide to some of the most famous national parks in Tanzania. This will help you decide which one you wish to visit most.

1. Serengeti National Park: Located in northern Tanzania, the Serengeti is one of Africa’s most iconic national parks. It is renowned for its vast savannah plains, where you can witness the annual wildebeest migration, as well as spot lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and numerous other animals. It is the number one choice for most travelers coming for Safari.

2. Ngorongoro Conservation Area: This UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for the Ngorongoro Crater, a large volcanic caldera that serves as a natural enclosure for a diverse range of wildlife, including lions, elephants, rhinos, and flamingos. It’s also a great place to experience Maasai culture and witness their traditional way of life. The views are magical and the experience is out of this world. A must – do in Tanzania!

3. Tarangire National Park: Located in northern Tanzania, Tarangire is famous for its large herds of elephants that roam the park. It’s also home to various other animals such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and diverse birdlife. The Tarangire River is a focal point, attracting wildlife during the dry season.

4. Lake Manyara National Park: Situated near the town of Mto wa Mbu, Lake Manyara National Park offers a unique landscape with a soda lake, dense forests, and open plains. The park is renowned for its tree-climbing lions, as well as large populations of elephants, hippos, giraffes, and an abundance of bird species.

5. Ruaha National Park: Located in central Tanzania, Ruaha is the country’s largest national park, known for its rugged and untouched wilderness. It’s home to diverse wildlife, including large elephant herds, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, and various antelope species.

6. Selous Game Reserve: Although not technically a national park, Selous is Tanzania’s largest protected area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s known for its vast landscapes, including woodlands, grassy plains, and the Rufiji River. Selous is home to a large population of elephants, buffalos, crocodiles, hippos, and various bird species.

These are just a few examples of the national parks and reserves in Tanzania. Each offers a unique experience and the opportunity to witness incredible wildlife in the middle of nature, in their own habitats.
