1K There is a new Rema on the block, and he might not be the typical one we are aware of. The young musician has been accused many times of devil worship from various antics of his, such as wearing his popular ‘upside down’ church-on-fire necklace. Additionally, his performance on November 14, 2023, sparked controversy when he opened the stage wearing a mask and mounted on a stationary horse with fire in the background. This dramatic entrance caused a public reaction, with some people calling him demonic or satanic. Despite explaining that his stage presence primarily served to represent his culture with a host of symbols, his justification was not entirely convincing. However, a recent video shows a new Rema speaking against the ills of the music industry. The video starts with him saying Afrobeats was getting boring and reminiscing about how great it sounded in 2010 and 2015. He proceeds to say, “We Africans gotta take our sh*t back. We gotta own it!” He spoke on how Afrobeats artists water down their music to appease international labels. In a paraphrase, he stated, “They will applaud you as you water it down until others come and win the awards. Then we will realize we sold ourselves.” In the midst of watching this video, we also noticed a much fitter Rema at 24 years old. Additionally, something of interest: he had taken off the Burning Church chain and donned a Jesus Cross chain. We are not sure what page he’s on but he definitely needs to be supported and protected.
