Ankara has taken a not-so-surprising turn in the past decade. From a fabric with little to no recognition, this African print has become internationally recognized and held up its own on the runway. The streets have not been left out in the same vein as uber-stylish women have brought their personalities and style ideas into the Ankara trend.

Last weekend in the city of Lagos was no child’s play. Celebrities embodied the Ankara print in more creative ways than one, especially as they stepped out for Nigerian musician Tiwa Savage’s Dad’s burial services and Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham’s movie premiere “The Ghost And The Tout Too.” From New York, Cape Town to Kingston, we see celebrities and influencers take their cut off the Ankara fashion pie. The great thing about this fabric is that it looks good on everyone, little wonder many designers and fashion houses are creating several collections dedicated to it.
One of the most exciting things about trends is that the more popular they get, the more individuals take a spin on it to showcase their personality and creativity. This is especially true for fashion trends. We saw it with the gingham prints, the bell-bottoms, and the fanny pack. We’re witnessing it again with the AnkSince that Style Rave is a huge supporter of individuality and creativity, we are stoked to see how stylish celebrities and influencers switch on the Ankara slay daily.
If you’ve fallen in love with this African print but have no clue how to wear it right, this curation is for you. We’ll be taking you through an exciting compilation of styles and ideas by some creatives and showing you interesting ways to wear Ankara as communicated by your favorites. Whether it’s a good dress, a contrasting combination, or as single doses, you’ll be spoilt for choice with this African print. Now, all that’s left is how you’ll be wearing yours.
Check out 5 Ankara style ideas as seen on your favorite style stars…
#1. A statement dress
When it comes to Ankara, dresses are one of the most popular options. Whether you’re purchasing an already made dress or you have a fabric that you want to be sewn by a trusted tailor, there are several options available. However, a tip is to opt for a dress that flatters your figure. For example, if you are plus-sized, stay away from heavily detailed dresses. You’ll thank me.

#2. A stylish two piece
If you’re looking for a clever way to wear Ankara this season, go the two-piece route as several influencers have done. Remember to dress with your body in mind, whether you’ll be wearing yours in skirts, pants, or maybe shorts. Also, now is a good opportunity to flaunt what you’ve got. That is to say, if you have great legs, don’t be afraid to rock yours with shorts.

#3. Jumpsuit
All hail the jumpsuit! These fabulous outfits are gaining center stage when it comes to Ankara style ideas. Regardless of individuality and personal style, many style stars have found a way to make the jumpsuit Ankara work for them, and you can too. Make your selection as you would your regular jumpsuit. However, remember to let your individuality come to the fore.

#4. Fabric combinations
What better way to make a statement this season that with a genius mix-and-match Ankara? Think about it, with this Ankara style idea, you can have not one but several fabric types. That is to say you get to play with multiple textures and prints. Sounds good to me.

#5. Single doses
So, you’re still not sure how you intend to get in on all the Ankara fun? Not to worry, there’s something for you. Rather than deck head-to-toe in this African print, you can test the waters by incorporating only a single Ankara outfit into your ensemble. Whether it’s a skirt, jacket, pants, or kimono, the choice is all yours. Now, you have no excuse not to show up like a true stylista.
