Bibiani Gold Stars ace Abednego Tetteh is hoping his exploits in the Ghana Premier League will earn him a spot in Chris Hughton’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 32-year-old striker has yet to be capped by the Black Stars, although he was handed a call-up in 2017 before being dropped from the final party.

There have been calls for Tetteh to be included in Hughton’s plans as he leads the scoring charts in the Ghanaian top flight after bagging 16 goals in 28 appearances.

He was overlooked for the AFCON 2023 qualifier against Madagascar on June 18 but believes he’s gained enough experience over the years to make an impact on the international stage.

“Yeah for sure, if I get the opportunity I would be happy, I got the opportunity in 2017, but I was dropped at the last minute,” Tetteh told Citi Sports.

“I think if the time is due, I would be honoured. I will be happy if I get that opportunity. I can hear so many Ghanaians yearning for me to be given an opportunity with the national team, I hope it comes to pass, if not we still give thanks to God.

“I will not be disappointed if it doesn’t happen, any called up to the national team deserves to be there, if the person deserves it more than I do, it is fine.

“Sometimes you have to learn from failures, and then it will elevate you to success. I think I have gathered more experience from Hearts of Oak and King Faisal in that period to be a better player.”

Tetteh will be looking to secure the top scorer’s award in the final two games of the season against Karela United and Accra Lions as he leads Bechem United’s Hafiz Konkoni by one goal and Tamale City’s Sampson Eduku by two.
