Sudanese Health Minister Omer Al-Najeeb on Saturday announced his infection with COVID-19.

“Since the beginning of the week, I felt some symptoms suggestive of infection with the coronavirus. I made the test and the result was positive,” said Al-Najeeb in a statement.

Working from home where he is quarantined, the minister said he is recovering now, thanks to the vaccine he had previously got.

The minister urged citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible so as to protect themselves and their families.

Sudan has so far recorded a total of 37,715 COVID-19 cases, including 2,837 deaths, according to the ministry.
