Snoop Dogg, the West Coast rap icon turned cultural mainstay, is officially bringing his life story to the big screen. Read more about Snoop’s upcoming biopic, film and TV deal with Universal inside.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Doggfather has signed a multi-year first-look deal with NBCUniversal through his Death Row Pictures banner, solidifying a partnership that spans film, TV, streaming, and even sports entertainment.

At the heart of the deal is an upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic, which is already in development with Universal Pictures. The film will be penned by Joe Robert Cole, best known for co-writing Black Panther, and produced by Brian Grazer, the Oscar-winning powerhouse behind films like 8 Mile and A Beautiful Mind. With a team like that, fans can expect an epic, cinematic deep-dive into Snoop’s transformative career from Long Beach gangsta rap legend to global media mogul.

“There’s only one Snoop,” said NBCUniversal chairman Donna Langley in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “And we’re so excited for him to join our unbelievable roster of creative partners.”

The biopic is just the beginning. As part of this expansive deal, Snoop and Death Row Pictures—led by Snoop, President Sara Ramaker, and creatives Kevyn Woods, Keifer Moore, and Torre Blake—will now operate from the Universal Studios Lot. The collaboration reflects Snoop’s growing presence beyond music, especially in television and live events.

Snoop is also making moves on the small screen. He’s set to return as a judge on The Voice for its 28th season on NBC this fall. He made a great impression during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, bringing his signature commentary and humor to NBC and Peacock’s coverage. From prime-time TV to Olympic moments, Snoop’s influence continues to expand.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Snoop shared his excitement: “Not everyone has the courage and vision to see what Death Row Pictures can bring to the table, but Donna and the NBCUniversal team have always understood, which is why I am proud to call NBCUniversal my new home. The Dogg has officially moved into the neighborhood, ya dig?”

With a powerful story, major creative backing, and Snoop at the helm, this upcoming biopic is a highly anticipated project in hip-hop cinema. Get ready to see the evolution of Snoop Dogg.
