Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe’s bid for a second term has been confirmed ahead of the organization’s presidential elections set for March 2025.

The South African billionaire assumed office in March 2021 – replacing Malagasy football administrator Ahmad Ahmad who decided against standing for election after being banned by FIFA over financial misconduct.

Motsepe has been hailed for transforming African football over the years and the 62-year-old is now looking to lead CAF for another four years.

“Following requests from numerous CAF Member Association Presidents, Zonal Union Presidents and key stakeholders, the CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe has finally agreed to stand as a candidate at the CAF Presidential Elections scheduled for March 2025,” a statement read.

During the recent 46th CAF Ordinary Assembly held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, chaired by Motsepe, the African football governing body revealed an achievement of a significant financial turnaround in the 2022/23 fiscal year.

The organization achieved a remarkable reduction in losses from $28.9 million (R507 million) to $9.2 million (R162 million) and a year before, CAF’s deficit was sitting at $45 million (R790 million).
