Experience Authentic Rwanda with Sextantio’s Capanne Project

We Are Africa is honoured to introduce Sextantio Rwanda’s Capanne Project as a new exhibitor in 2025. This innovative venture offers an immersive journey into Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage, providing travellers with an authentic experience.

Nestled on Nkombo Island in Lake Kivu, the Capanne Project is a testament to Sextantio’s commitment to preserving and celebrating local traditions. The project features meticulously reconstructed traditional Rwandan huts, inspired by exhibits from the Ethnographic Museum of Rwanda in Butare. These structures honour indigenous building techniques, utilising local materials to maintain historical authenticity.

Sextantio’s philosophy centres on sustainable tourism that uplifts and respects local communities. The Capanne Project operates on a self-subsistence model, engaging in traditional agriculture and livestock rearing. This approach not only preserves the cultural fabric of Nkombo Island but also ensures that tourism benefits its residents.

Exclusive Experiences

  • Participate in guided tours of local villages, visit markets and schools, and experience traditional Rwandan dances and music by the lakeside at sunset.
  • Join local fishermen in night fishing expeditions on Lake Kivu, utilizing traditional methods that offer a glimpse into the island’s way of life.
  • Savour authentic Rwandan cuisine prepared with locally sourced ingredients, including meals shared in the communal dining area and barbecues on the private beach.

Since 2008, Sextantio has supported initiatives providing health insurance to Rwanda’s most vulnerable populations. The Capanne Project continues this legacy, with all proceeds directed towards sustaining these vital community programs.

We invite you to connect with Sextantio Rwanda at We Are Africa 2025 to explore how the Capanne Project can enrich your offerings with genuine cultural experiences that resonate with the ethos of responsible and impactful travel.

Embrace the future of African travel—where authenticity meets exclusivity, and every journey tells a story.
