I
t seems the minute the global social doors flung open after the intolerable lockdowns, there was a stampede of event-ready people making a break for the door heaving sighs of relief and dressing up accordingly like they’d been ready for the party two years ago. Perhaps, we can all relate. The year 2022 has presented itself with an avalanche of red carpet events melting down towards a large fence of enthusiastic fans. The #GrammyAwards and the #FifteenPercentPledge Gala were two of the most recent celebrity-studded events and expectedly, Black celebs responded “oui, certainement” in trend-defying creative ensembles.

The looks
Model extraordinaire Iman stepped out for the 15 Percent Pledge Gala in an animal print Sergio Hudson flowy dress, which accentuated her toned frame. The number left no skin exposed, yet kept things alluring and à la mode. Think of it as conservative sass!
Music bombshell Saweetie has proven that she can effortlessly navigate the style train in a variety of options from subtle neutrals to blinding bright hues. As she graced the Grammy red carpet over the weekend, she made a case for pink in a sultry two-piece that evoked a sexy, Black Barbie vibe. The singer was a vision in a custom fuchsia Valentino two-piece which perfectly complemented her platinum blonde pixie cut.
Nigerian influencer Chioma Ikokwu recently announced that she’s part of the cast for the upcoming reality show; “The Real Housewives of Lagos,” and it’s not out of character for Ikokwu to show up all glammed up, extra, and serving it la haute. Hence, showing up for the show’s premiere in a blue statement high slit number by Xtra bride Lagos wasn’t a surprising move. The detailing on the frock, nevertheless, pulled attention in a neck-breaking context. From the embellished headwear to the regal updo, Ikokwu appeared as royalty strutting out of an Egyptian palace.
The styles shared by Black celebrities and top fashion influencers last week were nothing short of chic, edgy, and glamorous, and it’s safe to say that we are, as usual, living vicariously through them.
Check out last week’s best fashion moments as seen on Black stars around the world…
