It is hard for any observer to understand the transformation of the Super Eagles. For almost 10 barren years, with unknown foreign coaches mostly in charge, the Super Eagles grovelled in the dark in search of an answer to her dwindling fortunes in African football. Five months…

One of those rare ‘all-year-round’ gems, there isn’t really a bad time to visit Colombia. Located on the equator, the temperatures are fairly consistent in each region and the weather patterns are dictated more by altitude over anything else. As you move from the highlands to the lowlands, you’ll pass through a few different microclimates along the way! In a nutshell, it’s helpful to think of Colombia as having two different seasons: the dry and the wet. Sport occupies a hallowed place in the history of pan-Africanism. The Confederation of African Football (CAF), which runs African football and, in particular, the African Cup of Nations (Afcon), was founded as far back as 1957. That was six years before the birth of the Organisation of African Unity, the precursor to the African Union. Over the years the CAF lent its support to anti-colonial liberation struggles across the continent, including against apartheid in South Africa.
John Baxter Taylor Jr etched his name in history as the first black Olympic gold medalist. While attending the University of Pennsylvania, Taylor dominated the track, clinching three IC4A 440-yard titles. His winning times in 1904 (49.2 seconds) and 1907 (48.8 seconds) stood as the fastest in the world in those years. He also secured the AAU championship in 1907, according to the Olympics website. Despite his favored status in the 400 meters at the 1908 Olympics, Taylor failed to perform. The race was overshadowed by controversy when Britain’s Wyndham Halswelle and America’s John Carpenter clashed. Carpenter was accused of…
The current state of the world is the tragic manifestation of history repeating itself, echoing the famous line, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” In 1919, at the end of World War I, the victorious powers – Britain, France, Italy, the United States and Japan – convened for the Paris Peace Conference, which produced the Treaty of Versailles and established the League of Nations, heralding a new era of international relations. The latter’s primary objective, as outlined in its 26-article covenant, was to promote peace, prevent the recurrence of global conflict, and…
