Registration Opens for Africa Climate Week 2021

UN Climate Change News, 14 September 2021 – Registration has opened for Africa Climate Week 2021 (ACW 2021), designed to bolster regional collaboration ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow in November.

The meeting will be held virtually 26-29 September and will be hosted by the Government of Uganda and co-organized by UN and other multilateral agencies. Registration is now open on the ACW 2021 conference site.

ACW 2021 will bring together governments, private sector leaders and civil society to engage in solution-oriented dialogues and showcase climate action. It is an opportunity to foster collaboration on pressing challenges and build resilience against growing climate risks.

From the host nation, Sam Cheptoris, Minister of Water and Environment, said”: “Uganda is already feeling the impacts from climate change. From extreme drought to extreme flooding, the threat is growing in Africa. For governments, regional stakeholders and civil society to collaborate on our common challenge, we need to act now and act together. Climate action is a path to a better future for Africa and for the world.”

Visit ACW 2021 on the web to register and join the discussion.

The ACW 2021 Virtual Thematic Sessions are part of a series of three Regional Climate Weeks leading up to COP26 in November. ACW 2021 follows virtual meetings for Latin America and the Caribbean (LACCW 2021) and the Asia-Pacific region (APCW 2021) held earlier this year. Middle East North Africa Climate Week (MENACW 2022) is scheduled for March 2022.

The outputs of all three Virtual Thematic Sessions this year will inform a High-Level Event scheduled for 4-6 October, framing the outcomes in the context of the global response to climate change and bringing the voice of the regions to COP26.

The Virtual Thematic Sessions feature discussion around key themes to unlock increased climate ambition through regional collaboration. The three themes are:

    • National actions and economy-wide approaches
    • Integrated approaches for climate-resilient development
    • Seizing transformation opportunities

Virtual participation in the event will be possible from anywhere in the world. Stakeholders working on climate action in Africa can register to attend on the ACW 2021 platform.
