Secret agents will be deployed in various points of duty to monitor police officers engaging in corrupt activities, the country’s newly-appointed police chief said on Thursday.
Lemmy Kajoba said there was a need to change the perception that police officers were the most corrupt among public workers in the country.
“We, therefore, need to change this narrative through transformation of individual attitudes towards work and adopt the route of professionalism,” the police chief said.
He cautioned police officers against engaging in acts of corruption and cited the traffic section, security check-points and inquiries office as some of the places within the police with high rates of corruption.
The police chief has since urged members of the public to report any officer found in corrupt practices and noted that members of the public should also desist from bribing police officers.
According to him, every police officer was expected to play a role in rebuilding the confidence in the police services by members of the public.
