Beaver Creek Coffee 19 May 2021

When you’re staying on the South Coast of Kwazulu-Natal or, even if you’re just passing by, STOP at Beaver Creek Coffee Estate! Heck, take the drive down and make a day of it if you’re a #Durbanite and definitely if you profess to be a true coffee enthusiast.

    Where

When it comes to activities in Durban that the entire family can enjoy, this is it. The world’s southernmost coffee growing plantation is about a 1hr and 50minute drive from Durban. We were staying in the area at The Estuary Hotel and Spa thus it was a quick drive in the landy for us but, if you’re making a day trip of it, it is a fairly easy drive taking the N2 South heading towards Port Edward.  At the Port Edward Traffic lights you turn right onto Izingolweni road and a short 4.5km down the road, you’ve arrived at Beaver Creek Coffee Estate on the left. Coffee, coffee, coffee….LIFE!

    What’s on the menu

Coffee! And….a lot more than just that. In our minds we had envisioned a small little shop selling coffee but what we found was a bustling coffee estate offering a coffee shop with a delicious menu, a store where you are able to purchase locally made products and, of course, Beaver Creek Coffee. There are even running, hiking and biking trails that cater for all fitness levels (we will definitely be taking our mountain bikes the next time we visit). A play area for children means you are able to sit, sip and enjoy your coffee without having to worry about entertaining the little ones. The Espresso bar is where you can get involved in a tasting experience and, there is even a coffee tour you can experience.

    Running Trails

It is recommended that you book for the coffee tour as it does seem a popular experience in KZN. When there, we even had the pleasure of meeting an American couple who were exploring South Africa and made their way down the coast to learn more about the coffee making process and…this particular estate.

It was decided by the entire ATB crew that this would be an ideal stop for lunch and soon our orders were placed with one of the efficient waitrons. We had ordered toasted sandwiches but had serious meal envy when we saw the burgers! The man ordered the Dom Pedro, I the Kahlua Milkshake and the little man settled on an Iced Tea.

    Beaver Creek

While we waited for our orders, we perused the store and even purchased a small coffee tree plant. It is in all likelihood going to die as we can do travel…we don’t DO keeping plants alive!
