Located on the Persian Gulf coast, Ras Al Khaimah is the northernmost emirate of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. Ras Al Khaimah has a long and rich history dating back to the Bronze Age. Once an important trading hub in the Arabian Gulf, it was ruled by several different dynasties over the centuries. Today, traces of this history can still be seen throughout the city – particularly in its architecture and cuisine.

The beaches stretch for miles, and many of them have been specially constructed for swimming and sunbathing. The mountains that surround Ras Al Khaimah offer hikers and climbers plenty of opportunities to explore their slopes and peaks. The emirate’s capital city, also called Ras Al Khaimah, is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, hotels, and attractions. 1. Visit the abandoned village of Al Jazirat Al Hamra

Al Jazirat Al Hamra is an abandoned fishing village and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its name “Al Jazirat Al Hamra” translates to “The Red Island”, after the red-coloured sand that covers the island. In recent years, the island has become a popular destination for abandoned island enthusiasts and adventurous travellers. Visitors to Al Jazirat Al Hamra can expect to find abandoned houses, schools and marketplaces amid the red sand dunes. An island is a great place for those who are looking for an adventure off the beaten path.

2. Step back in time at the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah

The National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah is a great place to learn about the history and culture of the Emirate. Located in the Al Hisn Fort, it was founded in the 16th century and was the royal residence of the ruling family until 1964. The museum contains archaeological artifacts dating back to the Iron Age. Do go onto the rooftop of the fort for great views of the surroundings.

3. Soak in the Khatt Springs

Approximately 20 km away from Ras Al Khaimah, Khatt Springs are natural springs located at the foot of the Hajar Mountains, which are believed to have therapeutic properties. The castle-like spa structure is surrounded by a lush green oasis and magnificent mountains and offers several relaxations and healing facilities. The surrounding area contains around 170 archaeological sites.

4. Relax at Al Hamra Beach

Ras Al Khaimah is home to some of the best beaches in the UAE, and Al Hamra Beach is one of the most popular public beaches there. The sparkling white sand and clear blue waters are perfect for a day of relaxation or fun. There are plenty of beach activities to keep one busy, including swimming, sunbathing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboarding.

5. Visit Dhayah Fort

Dhayah Fort is a historic fort surrounded by huge mountains and palm trees. Built in the 18th century, it was the last outpost of resistance against British rule. Visitors can explore the fort and learn about its history.
